Spontaneity
I have to say, this has been the weirdest year of my life. Between traveling for my previous job so much, switching jobs, and plenty of other personal and professional changes, it’s been anything but normal, which is hard to accept for my OCD-type ways and lust for a regimented, regular, and predictable schedule. Sidebar: it’s pretty strange that I picked telecom and social media to be my career, right? Probably two of the most volatile areas to be involved in.
Suffice it to say, nothing has gone as planned this year… and it’s been great! Spontaneity has become the theme of my life and it’s coincidentally bleeding into my personal life a smidge. If you follow my Instagram you know what I’m talking about.
Yup, we took a small little last minute trip to Hawaii!
Basically, all of my vacations have been planned to a T, weeks – if not months – in advance. From the hotel to the excursions, to the public transit and sometimes even meals, Jon and I just can’t help but plan. And then for me there’s the packing… That starts with a list, a closet inventory, and most of the time shopping, and sometimes even Ziploc bags. But this trip was truly spontaneous… We booked our tickets on Thursday at 10 pm and left Saturday at 5 pm. With my last day coming up at work and a blog photo-shoot scheduled both Friday and Saturday I had no time to pack. So literally at 2 pm on Saturday, Jon and I started frantically throwing things into our suitcase. It’s the least organized I’ve ever been for a trip and I definitely had a mix of useful and useless items.
So, we hopped on the plane with absolutely no idea what we would be doing for the next week, with items and clothing we may or may not need. And you know the best part of it? It ended up being a wonderful vacation, filled with spontaneity and adventure (which I can’t wait to share next week!).
For as much as my life is planned and organized, there is beauty in spontaneity. Don’t be afraid to break out of your bubble and explore the world!
